Salthill Devon’s U13 Division 1 team progressed to the next round of the Divisional Cup following a 4-2 victory at home to Bearna-na-Forbeacha last Saturday morning at a cold but glorious Drom. The conditions were ideal and the crowd were treated to a competitive game where Mike Murray’s charges eventually came out on top in a high scoring game. Mark Brady’s U15 Premier team overcame the same opposition also in Drom on Saturday, however, it was a closer affair as the teams could only be separated by penalties following a 2-2 draw after extra time.
There was disappointment for Martin Ridge’s U12 Division 1 team when they were beaten in a top of the table clash by Colga FC also in Drom on Saturday morning. Despite leading 1-0 at the break they went down 2-1 in a game which could have gone either way. This team have achieved much success under the stewardship of Martin Ridge, John Nolan and Academy Director Conor Byrne and they will no doubt bounce back from this minor setback.
Pat Lawless’s U15 Division 1 team maintain their dual assault on league and cup glory after they defeated Colemanstown Utd 3-2 in a thrilling match in the Division 1 Cup.
New Junior manager Marek Kyrnicki suffered his first loss after Devon were beaten 2-1 in the Connacht Cup away to Ballisodare Utd of County Sligo after a game they dominated but were caught by two swift counter attacking moves by the home side.
The U16s lost a titanic encounter 4-3 to league leaders Colga FC in the league. Phil Trill’s team defeated the same opposition before Christmas in a sign of considerable progress for this side but came up just short on this occasion.
The academy continues to be a hive of activity with blitzes organized for teams from U7 to U11s most weekends by the dedicated team of coaches and parents. The U9s have been particularly active under the guidance of Dave Mulry and last weekend they hosted Oughterard in Drom in another memorable occasion. This weekend sees a selection of the U11s entertain Renmore in the Development League while the U8s host neighbours Knocknacarra FC tonight, Friday, under lights in Drom.
