JULIE-ANN RUSSELL was today named the Bus Éireann Women’s National League Player of the Year at an awards presentation at the Aviva Stadium.

Julie-Ann, who is from Moycullen and an MBA Student, learned her football in Salthill Devon from a young age and was an integral part of the great Under 16 squad for Salthill Devon which won the All Ireland title under Manager Kieran O’Mahoney in 2007. Check out this video about that great team:

The Peamount United and Republic of Ireland international winger was delighted with the honour after an impressive campaign for the Dublin outfit.

“It’s a great honour to win this award. The players who were nominated were all top class so to be chosen as the Player of the Year is a great personal achievement,” said Russell.

“Ultimately it’s nice to be recognised as an individual but as a team we missed out on the title so we’re still disappointed about that.

“The focus now is on the international game against Russia next week. We showed what we could do against Germany and have to try build on that against Russia.”

The Irish meet Russia at Tallaght Stadium on Wednesday, May 7.
