The Club - Who we are

Salthill Devon F.C. was founded in 1977 and has a current membership of 530 juveniles and 65 adult players. It fields 23 competitive teams in competitions at local and regional level. These comprise all age groups from U10 through U18 as well as 2 Adult teams, the most senior are currently Premier League Champions in Galway. In addition to the above the Club has over 160 members at U8 and U9 who are engaged in internal mini-leagues.

The Club has enjoyed considerable success on the playing field, reaching National Finals at Under 15 and Youth level, and regularly making it into the last eight of the national competitions. Salthill Devon teams frequently take the honours at the juvenile age groups in the Galway and District League and have enjoyed considerable success in Connacht Cup competitions .In 2000, for example, the Club won both the U12 and U14 Connacht Cup competitions. As well as providing players on a regular basis to Galway representative teams, the Club has also provided players who have represented their country at international level and those who have gone to play in the Irish and English leagues. Our most recent international, Sean Murphy, played for the Irish Under 14 team vs.Scotland in May.

Cairdeas tré Spórt - Our Motto

The Club ethos is concerned with the development of young players and with contributing in a positive manner to our local community. The Club motto 'Cairdeas tré Spórt' encapsulates for us the essence of what we are about, namely, the development of lasting friendships through sporting participation. Coupled with this is the development of role models and sporting heroes within our community. These will provide the powerful positive influences and peer Committeeure for our youth. The discipline and demands of athletic achievement are the real alternatives to the influences of drugs and crime.

The Club membership is drawn mainly from the western side of Galway City. The great bulk of the membership is drawn from the Knocknacarra, Rahoon, and Salthill neighbourhoods. These areas have a large and growing youth population which is mirrored in the Clubs membership
Each year the Club undertakes foreign tours with its juvenile teams. We view this as an essential part of the cultural and educational development of our young players, and in the last few years we have visited Cologne, Boston, Aberyswyth, Bradford and Huddersfield. Indeed this year we came home with the Under 14 trophy from Huddersfield ! Each year the Club provides a number of 3rd level scholarships to players to assist them in their educational development. Again these scholarships form a central part of our Club philosophy which is concerned with the development of youth in the fullest sense.
