The Squad

At Salthill Devon we have long fostered trips abroad for the invaluable experience it gives the young players both on and off the field. 2016 is no different and this year Gabriel Kenny took his squad to San Sebastian for the Donosti Cup.

Once again Salthill Devon is proud of its young players, coaches, managers and supporters; Gabriel’s wonderful , post tournament, words follow:

“Thank you for your support in making the trip to Spain a success. Over the course of the week we watched a group of young Kids perform fantastically on the European stage against difficult opposition. They played 5 matches, won 4 and eventually lost out in 30 degree heat to an academy team from Madrid.

The Skipper

The highlight for the majority of those who played (and the supporting group) was their first half performance in the final match. They fought like lions and won a huge amount of admiration for the manner of their defeat to superior opposition.

Thank you to the entire squad for giving us those memories and for being a great bunch of young men. To those parents who could not make the trip, your children behaved themselves impeccably and are a credit to themselves, you as parents and the club. You should be extremely proud of every one of them.

A few people deserve a special mention.

Conal & Laura Kavanagh and Mickey & Lisa Sherlock. your help in San Sebastian was unbelievable, organizing transport, post match food and extra-curricular activities for the Kids. Your generosity and kindness made a huge difference to all of the kids, Peadar and I will be forever grateful. (The best supporters in the world Calum, Charlie and Hannah – all aged 8, who led the team out for every match and gave great coaching advise.)

Garrett (coach McCall) and Joe thanks for the laughs. Tom and Helen Browne and Karen O Leary thank you for all the fundraising activity which made the trip viable.

Thank you to Vito and Tony for their fantastic input in developing the Kids.

Finally, thank you Peadar for the difference of opinion, for the forthright analysis, for all the time you have devoted to the squad over the years and for making these trips great fun. See you on the golf course”

Thank you Peadar & Gabriel – top men; in year’s to come these you players will fondly remember this trip.
