U14 Premier Cup Quarter Final: Craughwell 1 - 9 Salthill Devon Craughwell 1 - 9 Salthill DevonThe sun beamed down in Craughwell this evening as Devon ventured to Carughwell for this quarter final game. Devon were without 5 squad members this evening Shane Connaughton, Aaron Kane, Eoghan Stenson, Conor Shaugnessy and Niall Murray. Salthill Devon started the game and scored in the opening few minutes as Alex Byrne scored following a goal mouth scramble. One would have been forgiven for thinking that the game would be very easy from this point as Devon had scored 8 without reply in their previous league fixture. Craughwell equalised almost immediately as Devon failed to deal with a long ball and the centre forward expertly lobbed the ball over the out rushing Chris Healy in goal. Joe Gaughan got hold off the game and set up Eric Ohlstrom to expertly lob the keeper to gain the advantage back for Devon and Joe Gaughan got on the score sheet to make it 3-1. At half time, Sean Lally replaced Dillon Murphy which saw numerous positional changes, Colin Hanbury moved to centre half and he captained the team for the evening, the excellent Garbhann Malone wss tucked in beside him at centre half, Diarmuid Fadden at left full and Chris Healy in goal. Joe Gaughan and Shane Garvey were the centre midfield pairing with Eric Ohlstom down the right flank and Ben Murphy down the left with Alex Byrne accompanying Aaron Murtagh in attack. Salthill Devon ran riot in the second half as Eric Ohlstrom completed his brace, Alex Byrne got 4 including a cheeky penalty, Garcbhann Malone got his customary set piece goal and Diarmuid Fadden who finally got his goal with a sweetly struck free kick from about 30 yards out. The scoreline was harsh on Craughwell as they battled gallantly for two thirds of the game. Devon now advance into the semi final to meet the winners of Moyne Villa and Cregmore/Claregalway. Devon will host Corrib Celtic this Thursday in their final league game of the season knowing that a result will guarantee them the league title. Devon should have a full squad available for selection for this league tie.
