Girls U12 Div 1: Salthill Devon B 1 - 2 Oughterard

Salthill Devon B 1 - 2 Oughterard

Salthill Devon Bs got their u-12 league campaign underway on a fine Sunday morning in May against Oughterard in Drom. Devon found themselves 2-0 nil down very early in the first half after some good play from their opponents who were a physically stronger side. With the introduction of Meadhbh Corcoran and Catherine Timon, Devon quickly began to take control in the centre of the park and influenced a lot of the play with some fine passing moves.

Hannah Connaughton, Amber Devaney and Roisin Hanney won some excellent ball helping Devon to create some good chances and were unlucky not to score before the break. In defence Roisin Conneely and Katie Hynes made some telling tackles and interceptions to prevent any further Oughterard attacks in the first half. They were assisted by Sarah Dunleavy who made some important runs out of the defence to set up some good counter attacking moves.

Bronagh Berry swapped the goalkeeper’s jersey with Katie Hynes for the second half. Meadhbh Corcoran continued to cause a lot of problems for Oughterard. A defence splitting pass found Bronagh Berry in space and she shot from outside the Oughterard box to find the top corner of the net. Devon grew in confidence and created gaps in the Oughterard midfield and defence thanks to the tireless work of Hannah Connaughton, Amber Devaney, Sarah Dunleavy, Roisin Connelly and Catherine Timon. With ten minutes to go Katie Hynes made an excellent save to keep the score at two-one. Time eventually ran out on a spirited Devon performance and the girls were unlucky not beat the excellent Oughterard keeper for a second time to gain a deserved point.
