U12As League Champions

Hibs 0 - 2 Salthill Devon

It's been a hard and long season so far and it got harder for the lads again last night in Bohermore as they had to fight all the way to overcome a much unproved Hibernian. The first half could be described as a battle as Hibs were battering Salthill Devon at every opportunity and were always a threat with the long ball up to the 2 big lads up front.

Devon were trying to play football but found it hard to break down the Hibs reargaurd. Late in the 1st half Kevin Horgan had to be at his usual best to palm a free kick away and then was quickest to the second ball just as the striker was about to pull the trigger. Salthill had a couple of attacks but none really threatened there keeper.

0-0 at half time and a chance for a few words from Tommy and Peter to get the boys ready for the 2nd half. The lads were reminded that nobody was going to hand them the league and like all season they would have to fight for it. And that is what happened as we started to win every ball, little passes were starting to come together and our back four of Brennan, Lally, Kelly and McClean took charge and pushed the wide players Gary Kineen and Josh Marvesly further up the pitch. Eamon Conroy was now starting to get on the ball and spread it wide but it took a fantastic shot from Man of Match Marcus Macdonnaca to open the scoring from the edge of the box.

Caolin Tobin was introduced at this point to add more firepower alongside the excellant and hard working front 2 of Kelly and Okeefe. Marvesly then was upended after a mazey run into the box and Tobin scored from the spot kick. It was time to close up shop so on came Heffernan, Hunt, Egan and Finnerty to give fresh legs and drive us over the line. Missing on the night were Morgan, Hanley, Connell, Bergin and the injured Eoghen Power. Final score on the night was 2-0 and the Double was now done as the boys had already won the Conaught Cup 2 weeks ago. Not much chance for celebration as up next on Saturday are Oranmore in a semi final of the Premier Cup.
