U14A: Moyne Villa 0 - 2 Salthill Devon U14A: Moyne Villa 0 - 2 Salthill DevonSalthill Devon U-14's came into their 3rd league game without the services of Eamonn Brannigan, Niall Murray and Sean Lally. Preparation went OK but a timing error meant that the game kicked off 30 minutes later than billed. This was to prove a test of concentration more so than anything else as it is all too easy to let your focus go and fall into a false sense of ease and allow the game to pass you by. Alex Byrne captained Devon for the 1st time after his brace against Barna and in the team huddle prior to kick off he demaned a performance from his team mates. Indeed, Devon started in blistering form and should have been two up in the opening minutes but for poor finishing. Moyne Villa had adopted a 4-5-1 formation and were happy to realease long balls into the Salthill backline for their striker to chase, Garbahann Malone and Shane Garvey marshalled the centre of defense admirably and both are proving to be quite a pairing at the back. Aaron Kane in right full was availing of the wide space afforded to him and equally Diarmuid Fadden at left back, a burgeoning talent, who is realizing the potential that his left foot creates was both dominant and creative down the left flank. Whilst Devon completed dominated the first half they were unable to break the deadlock. With a bird's eye view of the half time team talk, it was evident that Devon Management knew that there was more within each individual and this was demanded from them. The re-start saw a succession of corners for Devon and when the ball broke Alex Byrne managed to steer the ball into the corner of the net. A well deserved lead for Devon and a notable sense of relief at the same time. The lead meant that Moyne Villa needed to come and have a go which in turn open space in the middle of the park, the best move of the game involved Conor Shaughnessy finding Eoghan Stenson down the left flank, who's cross found Conor Shaughneesy who's diving header was well saved by the home keeper. In the final moments a precise ball over the top from Fadden on the left allowed Eoghan Stenson to get in behnd the defence with a one on one with the keeper, the keeper saved well from his inital strike and Joe Gaughan was on hand to steer home the rebound to make it 2-0 and seal victory for the seagulls. Before this, Eric Ohlstrom, Shane Connaughton and Colin Hanbury replaced Dillon Murphy, Ben Murphy and Aaron Kane respectively. Devon are at home to Cregmore/Claregalway this weekend in the Connaught Cup, with proceedings kicking off at 12.30 in Drom, as always, Support would be appreciated.
